So how do you bring water features into a small garden. Firstly there are several different styles of feature available and its important to make sure it sits well in the rest of the garden otherwise it will likely feel out of place. In small gardens its even more important to make sure everything that goes in fits well into the scheme or it can start to feel cluttered.

That doesn’t mean you cant have a comtemporay feature in a cottage garden as sometimes this juxtapose actually works very well. As long as the materials and colour feel right.

If your going to choose a wildlife pond it can attract an abundance of wildlife even if its only a meter across as long as the depth is right and you provide access in and out.

A raised pond can also provide a habitat for dragonfly’s and water insects so using sleepers or a rigid liner encased in stacked stone would make a lovely feature. If you make it only 50cm above ground and the rest below ground you can also sit comfortably on the edge.
