Norwich small feature design

Norwich garden feature

We were asked by our clients in Norwich, Norfolk, to create a small feature design. They had a corner of the garden that no longer worked for them. They wanted to continue the brick weave path that surrounded the rest of the house.

The area needed to be low maintenance but with some colour still. They wanted to have something nice to look at from the living room window and wanted to incorporate the bench. The clients had recently visited Castle acre priory and liked the idea of having herbs and plants growing from spaces in the patio.

We designed a brick weave patio with spaces for planting and left a small border between the old wall and patio. The established espaliered fruit trees were left against the wall along with some of the plants and bulbs.

We continued the brick weave into larger rectangular patio areas.

We used sawn sandstone blocks to create a raised bed in a u shape to incorporate a space for the white garden bench.

We constructed a timber frame work to support climbing plants and provide a little shade from the summer sun. We filled the area with a mixture of topsoil and raised bed mix and planted with perennial plants.
