East Ruston, new build, walled garden

walled garden

Early in 2016 I was contacted to produce a hard landscaping plan for a client in East Ruston, Norfolk. The garden was to be built on the site of some old barns and would have a large area of walled garden.

It was an exciting project with a blank canvas to work with. We wanted to recycle as much of the old barn materials as possible throughout the garden whilst bringing in some Norfolk country charm.

The clients were looking for a garden to express their interest in plants but needed the foundations to get them going. A veg garden was a must as well as an area for a large lean to greenhouse. Gravel was on the list of things not to include although using it as a driveway material was acceptable. The clients had a strong idea of the look they wanted and provided some pictures of gardens and styles that had inspired them.

The area they would be left with was a large garden and they were looking for deep borders with Felbrigg Hall, walled garden, in mind.

I came up with some designs that had views from every window and door and plenty of spaces to admire the garden from different angles. Although I haven’t worked in detail on the planting plans the design lends itself very well to using certain plants such as Wisteria, Buxus and Laburnham.

This project will be updated as it progresses over the year, and maybe longer, for now I have posted some pictures of both the hand drawn designs, the mood boards and the cad designs.
