Large Patio for entertaining

Family garden:

Our clients needed to improve the existing patio to accommodate their growing family. The design needed to be a garden for entertaining. The patio needed to be able to accommodate their entertaining needs as well as providing them with some privacy from the neighbors windows which overlooked the garden.

Before

Before

The pergola had seen better days and was far to small to accommodate their needs and the old patio slabs had moved making an uneven surface for their large table and chairs. The surrounding foliage was overgrown and was taking up precious space that could have been used to extend the usable area. We cut this back although the work had to be done in stages to accommodate a nesting bird and her baby.

We created a bespoke hexagonal pergola, to provide interest and privacy, that was large enough to comfortably fit the family under for summer BBQ’s. The clients are also using it for hanging baskets in the summer. The hexagon shape is also large enough for their interesting timber garden furniture to sit beneath.

We extended the patio out to cover the entire available area using a sandstone paving that blended well with the rest of the garden. We also built a retaining sleeper wall to support the bank which threatened to slip against the house. The sloping bank was large enough for a smaller patio lower down. Reached by two steps we used recycled Norfolk pamments, that the client already had in the garden, to create a small patio for two. The clients called this their G & T patio and would use this in the evening sun when not entertaining.
